英語中的並列句有兩種情況：完全並列句,即兩個有著各自主謂（賓）完整結構的的並列句,和同一主語的不完全並列句.前者實際上是兩個完全獨立的兩個句子,因語義表達需要而組合在一起.此類並列句不能省主語；後者實際上是並列謂（賓）語結構,多見於祈使句和同一主語的不同行爲或狀態的描述.例：
完全並列句：John went to school but Jane stayed at home yesterday.
不完全並列句：
